Welcome to your vacation home away from home in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The Carriage House Cottage at Westard Farm borders conservation land protected by Acadia. This cozy, clean, affordable getaway retreat offers rustic, post and beam accommodations with the latest comforts and conveniences including free wifi and good cell signal. Centrally located on land that was once a farm. Enjoy superior privacy in a quiet rural setting with a great view of the sun setting behind distant Blue Hill mountain. Only minutes to downtown and the park. Save on gasoline! Free Acadia shuttle stops at the end of the drive.
Step inside and admire the rugged cedar and hemlock beams that reach high to the pine board ceiling in the living area. Large windows and a full-size patio door look out over ancient apple trees and a small field were white-tailed deer come to fatten up in the fall. Whip o' wills and woodcock can be heard at dusk and frequently the call of coyotes reaches up from the nearby valley. Our "Tribal Council" area, for exclusive use of cottage guests, sports an Adirondak Leanto, fire pit with wood, and picnic table along our 400-foot nature trail.
The Carriage House at Westard Farm comes fully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing, memorable stay. It's the perfect honeymoon retreat! Our central location is perfect for launching your hiking, biking, wildlife watching or paddling trips. The cottage is located approximately 150 feet from the main private residence on land that was once an abandoned farm. There is an unattached garage in between.
The clean, airy cabin includes a living room with gas log fireplace, a sofa, chairs and a dining table and TV. The ground floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and bureau, hanging space for clothes, as well as a ceiling fan. The bathroom has a vanity sink, toliet and shower with plenty of hot water. One set of linens and towels are provided for the week.
There is a fully-equipped kitchenette that includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, full-size refridgerator/freezer, compact sink, dishes, utensils, pot and pans. There is no oven but there is a gas grill out on the porch/patio where there are chairs for relaxing outdoors. Overhead there is a reading loft. The cottage is also stocked with books and videos about the area's natural and human history. The cottage has free, robust wireless broadband internet, cable television, and a DVD/VCR player.
There are device chargers and connection cables for most major brands of phones, tablets etc. There are coloring books and videos for children. A Pack n' Play is available at no charge.
There is covered, secure bicycle storage and a free canoe and cartop gear.
The Carriage House Cottage will be open in 2022 with a schedule to allow additional deep cleaning between parties. Rental will run from 2 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Saturday. The rate is $1,195 with discounts for multiple weeks and for returning guests.(Please email for details.)
We rent only Sunday to Saturday. Maximum occupancy is 3 with additional charge for third person. Reservations and occupancy subject to Maine COVID requirements.

Earl and Roxie Brechlin enjoy everything Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park have to offer. Earl recently retired as Communications Director for Friends of Acadia after spending 37 years as Bar Harbor's local newspaper editor. He is a Registered Maine Guide and author of more than 12 books about Maine, Acadia and New England History. Roxie is a retired kindergarten teacher who spent 30 years in early childhood education. An avid gardener and baker she enjoys volunteering for the local library and her church as well as spending time with three rambunctious grandchlidren.
Carriage House Cottage guests are encouraged to spend an afternoon or evening around a cozy campfire at our Tribal Council Area. Many of our guests are former campers who have decided to upgrade to more comfortable accommodations while wanting to avoid the expensive and crowded hotels in town. The Tribal Council Area features seasonal running water, an Adirondak-style shelter, picnic table, string lights, and an ample supply of firewood.
